Superb Sentences: Monteiro Lobato

A series of beautiful phrases, sentences, and excerpts from Brazilian literature leading up to Brazil’s National Day of the Book on October 29.

Best known for his children’s literature, especially the 23-novel fantasy series “Sítio do Picapau Amarelo” (“Yellow Woodpecker Ranch”), Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948) is credited with the popular sentence: “Quem mal lê, mal ouve, mal fala, mal vê.”

Those who read poorly, hear poorly, speak poorly, see poorly.
