“Cada Beijo” by Bebel Gilberto

This song from Bebel’s 2004 self-titled album raises an interesting Portuguese-English translation issue: the word “cada.” Any dictionary will tell you that it translates as “each.” But it really gets used as “every” (and “any” and even “all”) sometimes. So here I’ve played with it a little.

Listen to the song

Each Kiss
Until evening comes and surrounds us
Moving from blue to dark blue
Until the pink lights you up
Here far away I’ll cry
For both of us

Each kiss
Each good kiss
How I miss kissing you
Every kiss
Every good kiss
Each resounding kiss

Now there’s no more blue at all
Alone I remain with the colorless memory

Each kiss
With its good taste
Every kiss
Has a tone
Each kiss
Each good kiss
Each resounding kiss
Each kiss
Makes my heart beat

Every kiss
With its good taste
How I miss kissing you

Each kiss
Each good kiss
Each resounding kiss
