100 best Brazilian songs? (81-100)
In July of this year and in honor of its own centennial, the Brazilian newspaper O Globo (one of the biggest papers in Brazil and part of the massive multimedia Globo group) selected their list of the top 100 Brazilian songs of the last 100 years. (Technically it was the 100 must “fundamental” songs of MPB, but of course it was received as the “best” songs.) Recognizing that the list would ignite thousands of hot takes, they also provided the ability to create your own list on their website. Starting today and culminating on November 15, the anniversary of Brazil’s proclamation of the republic, I’m repeating the Globo list and celebrating myself: I’m frankly floored by the number of songs and artists from the Globo list that have already appeared here on the Anvil.
