“Chega Mais” by Banda Black Rio (1978)

This is the first track from the 1978 album “Gafieira Universal” (“Universal Dancehall”) by the Black Rio band. This band grew out of the Movimento Black Rio (the Black Rio Movement), “a counterculture movement that arose in the 1970s in Rio de Janeiro. Initially inspired by the North American revolution in funk music, the movement blends rhythms of the so-called ‘black music brasileira’ (‘Brazilian Black music’), such as funk, soul, jazz, samba, and forró. … The starting point of the movement is considered to be November 11, 1969, at the Astoria Club in Rio de Janeiro, when the the discotheque held the first dance that played only songs sung by Black artists.” (https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Rio) Banda Black Rio was formed in 1976 by the saxophonist Oberdan Magalhães and dissolved in 1984 when he died. Oberdan’s son William reformed the band with new artists in 1999.

Listen to Chega Mais (Imaginei Você Dançando)

Come Closer (I Imagined You Dancing)
Come on, keep on coming
Now it’ll be cool
I imagined you dancing
To this universal sound

Made with love
Played with heart
And you ending up
Swaying and enjoying
I want to see you dancing
Keep on coming, come closer
