“The best traffic ticket ever”

On CBN radio’s “Fim de Expediente” (“End of the workday”) podcast of October 6, Luiz Gustavo “Teco” Medina reported this story:

We had a rare moment this week: the encounter of the greatest police officer in the history of the world with the most audacious driver in the history of humanity. Both were in Ponta Grossa in the state of Paraná … and what did this encounter of the two bring us? The best traffic ticket in history: … the officer ticketed the driver and wrote the following on the ticket: Driver in motion using his left hand supported on the steering wheel to eat a coxinha and in his right hand a packet of mayonnaise.

There is probably not a more ubiquitous or traditional bar food in Brazil than coxinhas. But more importantly, it should be noted that this ticket, like many in Brazil, was issued without stopping the car. The officer both identified the specific food that was being eaten (and the condiment) and the license plate of the car - all while the car was in motion. The CBN crew, amid calls to promote the police officer to mayor, vied for the best button to the story:

The lesson that remains is: if you’re eating coxinha, don’t drive.

The traffic infraction is light, but the coxinha is heavy.
