Happy Birthday, Duda Beat! Following the success of her 2018 debut, in 2021 she released her second album, “Te Amo Lá Fora” (“I’ll love you outside”), which includes the song below. This song makes it clear why she has been called a rainha da sofrência pop (“the queen of suffering pop”). The title of this song refers to a party, sometimes used a wild party, sometimes a calmer gathering of friends.
From a linguistic point of view, she does something interesting with the phrase “acabou comigo de vez” (“destroyed me completely” or “destroyed me for good” or, more literally. “ended me forever”), part of which she brings back later in the song without the main verb. Just “comigo de vez” could be something like “with me for good” or “with me forever” which echoes really nicely with the sentiment of the song.
